Strathcona County RCMP lay charges for Impaired Driving Causing Death

Strathcona County, Alta. – At approximately 6:31 p.m., on Sept. 17, 2024. Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Range Road 214 and Township Road 554 in Strathcona County.

During the initial investigation, police determined that a truck was travelling west on Township Road 554 when it collided with a car travelling north on Range Road 214. Upon arrival, it was determined that the driver of the car, a 65-year-old male resident of Gunn, Alta., was deceased. The driver of the truck sustained injuries and was transported to an Edmonton hospital.

In March 2025, following an investigation, 42-year-old Kevin Jones, a resident of Spruce Grove, Alta., was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired of motor vehicle causing death
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
  • Operation while impaired

Kevin Jones is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Alberta Court of Justice on May 28, 2025.
