Strathcona County RCMP provide crime prevention strategies with the upcoming Holiday Season

Strathcona County, Alta. – With the Holiday season fast approaching, Strathcona County RCMP are reminding residents to ensure their parcels and deliveries are secure to limit the chances of parcel and mail theft. RCMP understand that deliveries can occur while occupants are not home during the day, but there are ways to mitigate thefts.

If everyone follows some crime prevention strategies, the number of parcel and mail thefts can be greatly reduced.

To prevent parcel and mail theft, the RCMP are reminding the public of the following safety tips:

  • Check your mail every day
  • Utilize a package-safe drop box
  • Have parcels delivered to a warehouse or post office for pickup
  • Request a signature on delivery services so items are not left at the doorstep
  • Security cameras, such as doorbell cameras or exterior cameras, can deter parcel theft
  • Track your packages being delivered – arrival dates/times
  • Ask a neighbour you trust to pick up your parcel if you are not home

Strathcona County RCMP encourages the public to report suspicious activity to the police. If you see a crime in progress, dial 911. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
