Strathcona County RCMP arrest male during check stop

 

Strathcona County, Alta. –  On May 18, 2019 Strathcona County RCMP arrested a male for possession for the purpose of trafficking during a check stop on Baseline Road in Sherwood Park.

At approximately 10:16 p.m. Strathcona County RCMP were conducting a check stop on Baseline Road and 34 Street. Police suspected there to be drugs in the vehicle and the male was arrested.

Subsequently the vehicle was searched and police located what is suspected to be 5 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.

Rakhita JAYAWARDANA (32) of Edmonton has been charged with:

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking
-Possession of stolen property under $5000

JAYAWARDANA was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 5, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. in Sherwood Park Provincial Court.
